We are launching this 'Race to Finish Line' campaign to help us get over the finishing line and raise the final £300,000 needed to build a world-class Urology Centre at The Royal Surrey County Hospital.

We've already raised £1.7m but need to reach £2m to complete the build. The Centre will make a huge difference to the lives of urology patients; men, women and children with urological problems will benefit from the very best treatment available in a modern, world-class facility.

The Royal Surrey's ability to deliver the finest quality care is being hampered by serious lack of dedicated space.  There is nowhere to run collaborative clinics or to treat patients in the manner they deserve. Now all that will change.  The new Centre will enable consultants to run joint clinics and host joint meetings with colleagues in the SW Surrey Region.  It will be an essential step towards an one-stop shop for men with prostate cancer and all urological patients.

The Royal Surrey's status as a centre of excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer will be further enhanced by this exceptional new facility.  It will attract very high calibre personnel who want to be part of the pioneering team at Guildford.

The Royal Surrey is one of the largest Brachytherapy treatment centres in the world and certainly the largest in the UK. Brachytherapy is one of the most effective treatments for early stage prostate cancer involving the implantation of tiny radioactive seeds into the prostate.

The new Centre will enable the urologists to treat up to eight patients per day on a daycase basis using a new more rapid 4D Brachytherapy technique, which was developed at the

Royal Surrey and is being adopted at many centres around the world.

I was an early brachytherapy patient in 2001, in the care of Professor Langley and his team, and my donation is a token of my ongoing gratitude for a successful outcome.
