Join the YMCA LSW in one of the 3 boats we have for the Dragon Boat Race 2010. The Dragon Boat Race Trophy will be awarded to the winners and there will be runners up, ladies and youth team trophies too. There will also be a trophy for the team sporting the best head gear. The event offers a great day out whether you’re racing or a spectator with stalls and side shows, picnic area and a pub. As part of the YMCA teams we will require people to dress up as one of the Village People as a G.I/Sailor, Construction Worker, Leatherman/Biker, Cowboy, Indian or a Cop/Admiral. After the last race all YMCA teams are invited to the Hawker Centre in Kingston for Pimms (adults only), soft drinks and a BBQ where we will give a prize for best dressed Village Person. Team supporters are welcome too but there will be a charge for food and drinks. The money raised will go towards funding The Mount Holiday Play Scheme held at The Mount Primary School in Kingston during the Easter and summer holidays. A camp for under privileged and disadvantaged 4-11 year olds many suffering with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Asperger Syndrome) and ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It offers them a programme of activities, including crafts, outdoor play and creative cooking sessions; there are also weekly day trips to local attractions, parks and the cinema for the children to enjoy.
Joining instructionsEach team is made up of a minimum 12 people maximum 16 plus a drummer to beat time for the crew. 42 teams will compete and races will take place every 15 minutes throughout the day. Each team is guaranteed at least 3 races over the 250 metre course. The last race will finish around 4.30pm. Minimum age limit 12 years, youth groups are welcome but need to have parental/guardian consent. Crews of mixed abilities, male and female and those with disabilities may take part. No experience is necessary as training will be given on the day. Please fill out all your details we will then send you the fundraising pack and all you need to take part.
