One Home Many Hopes is a loving home for orphaned and abandoned girls in Mtwapa, Kenya. Known in Kenya as "Mudzini Kwetu", OHMH finds, rescues, houses, loves and educates former street children and equips them to be the future "agents of change" in their community. Our philosophy is that investing in education and providing family support for children is the most effective way of ending cyclical poverty. OHMH has launched "Breaking Ground 2010" - a month long, UK wide fundraising effort from 11 June to 10 July 2010. Across the UK, individuals and small teams of volunteers will be hosting events and launching their own fundraising drives to bring in £20,000 to build the first classrooms for our own school. Once the school is running, our girls (and other deserving children from the local community) will be able to receive the education that will empower them to become the next generation of doctors and lawyers, politicians and civil servants. From these positions they will be able to guide Kenya and help eradicate the corruption and unfairness of society that caused the desperate situations from which they were rescued. Your support is not just a donation; it is an investment that will build and transform the lives of our girls and, ultimately, Kenya. Once they were raped and beaten, orphaned or abandoned, and left to live or die on the streets. They now have their first proper home. Thanks to the OHMH UK Breaking Ground 2010 campaign (that means you) building will have soon started for their own school.
