The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland
Since its foundation in 1979, The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) has championed the provision of outstanding specialist music education for children and young people in Scotland from the ages of 4 to 28 years.
NYOS delivers socially inclusive outreach and education work in communities across Scotland, providing inspirational music education for young people, including young years students, who would not normally have access to these opportunities. In addition, NYOS works closely with local authorities to ensure a complementary provision to support the work already taking place in communities around the country.
Running a comprehensive range of national youth ensembles and performing orchestras, NYOS organises auditions, training, intensive rehearsals and national and international concert tours, providing our students with intensive training, parctical performance opportunities and the chance to work with peers from throughout Scotland and beyond. By working with experienced and internationally renowned soloists, conductors and composers, NYOS seeks to push students' abilities through intensive training sessions, collaborative working and choice of challenging musical repertoire. The results have been outstanding.
Over the past 30 years, tens of thousands of children and young people have performed with NYOS, developing the skills, confidence and abilities that help them become successful young adults in all walks of life. NYOS is extremely proud of the accomplishments of its students and alumni. Students dedication and commitment to progressing their music education is inspirational, epecially since many of the children participating are still relatively young.
NYOS extensive list of alumni includes Dame Evelyn Glennie, Nicola Benedetti, Garry Walker and Colin Currie, proving that the exceptional training, encouragement and experience our young musicians gain stands them in very good stead for the future.
Please help us to secure Scotlands musical future by making a donation to support the ongoing provision of these music education opportunities.
NYOS would also be delighted to hear from organisations wishing to consider sponsorship of NYOS projects.
