The Refugee Council
Homepage
The Refugee Council is the leading charity working with refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.
As a human rights charity, independent of government, we work to ensure that refugees are given the protection they need, that they are treated with respect and understanding, and that they have the same rights, opportunities and responsibilities as other members of our society.
We provide a warm welcome, and give food and basic provisions to newly arrived or destitute refugees. We help those who have fled oppressive regimes, suffered persecution or even torture, leaving behind everything they once called home. We ensure that every separated young refugee who comes to us feels safe, valued and listened to.
Through our campaigns, lobbying, research and parliamentary work, we speak out for the rights of refugees and challenge government policy, the media and negative public attitudes that push refugees to the margins of society.
‘The Refugee Council provided a lifeline… it has been like a mother to me’, a Sudanese refugee.
It is the generosity of our supporters that allows us to continue assisting vulnerable people, with dedicated advice and support across a whole range of services.
You can help us to continue our work by fundraising for us by hosting a RefuTEA or taking part in a sponsored event or challenge!
