Re~Cycle is a UK registered charity based in Colchester. Since 1997 we have sent over 75,000 unwanted and previously disused bikes, benefitting 450,000 people in Africa and preventing hundreds of tonnes of bike disuse in the UK. We have a collection points across the UK via our partnership with Halfords and we’re heavily supported by volunteers at our bike warehouse who help us quality check and pack bikes, parts and tools ready for transit to Africa.
Our partners (NGOs and Charities) distribute the bikes and teach riders the skills to repair and maintain them. A bike saves people from having to walk for miles each day in areas where there is no public transport and having a bike enables better access to employment, health care and education and can be a first step out of poverty.
Re~Cycle also provides volunteering opportunities for a wide range of people in the UK. Our regular volunteers range in age from young people doing work experience placements and Duke of Edinburgh awards to retired people as well as people recovering from head injury and mental illness.
