The Mountain Trust
The Mountain Trust
The Mountain Trust is a unique and innovative charity working for the benefit of the poorest and most underrepresented members of Nepali society. We have led the way in developing a number of innovative and novel projects in healthcare and education that address the specific needs of Nepal's poorest.
We are an independent charity and are funded entirely by donations from individuals and community groups. Without the generosity of our individual donors we could not continue our unique work in Nepal.
Here are some of our current projects:
Radio Guru – This is a pioneering remote education programme designed to broadcast the highest quality education in the form of recorded lessons into the homes of school-age children so that they can study at home. The programmes are broadcast throughout remote parts of Western Nepal on community radio stations. Radio Guru is long established and reaches many thousands of people daily.
Landrover Ambulance – The Landrover was donated, refurbished and shipped to Nepal using funds raised by a local school and the generosity of individual and community donors. It has treated over 2000 people to date and is used to conduct health camps for remote rural communities in mid-western Nepal in the Kaski region.
Scholarships – We support students through their education through a grant system from primary level to secondary and on into university in Nepal and abroad. The scholarships are designed to broaden access to education and have had considerable success with many hundreds of our scholarship students.
Medical – We provide health camps with free pharmacies and volunteer doctors from local and international hospitals. The health camps are conducted in the mid-west region of Nepal and provide the only access to free healthcare that many communities have.
Landless people – An important part of the work of the Mountain Trust is to support landless communities. These groups often work in riverbeds breaking stone by hand for the building trade. They are the most vulnerable in Nepali society to dramatic changes in the economy, health, and local weather.
Internships – In addition we provide valuable volunteer and internship opportunities in Nepal to students and professionals alike from the UK.
We are an independent charity operating in the UK and Nepal. We are funded entirely by donations from individuals like you. Without the amazing generosity of our donors and sponsors we could not continue our exciting and unique work in Nepal.
