Contact The Elderly
We are the only national charity with 50 years experience that is solely dedicated to fighting loneliness & isolation in old age. Through our Sunday afternoon tea parties we provide a lifeline of friendship and a chance for older people to become part of their communities again.
Our volunteer drivers use their own cars to collect their guests and accompany them to a tea party held at a volunteer hosts’ home, where they will spend time together with their group, share stories and have a chat over a cup of tea and cake.
These afternoon tea parties provide long-term solutions to loneliness and replicate as near as possible the hospitality our guests would receive from their friends and family.
“I’ve never had anything given to me in my life, and I can’t believe how kind people have been to me since I’ve been part of Contact the Elderly. It’s absolutely marvellous. It’s a wonderful organisation.”
(Margaret, older guest)
Contact the Elderly is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2015 and we are marking 50 years since the first ever tea party was held in April 1965. Since then Contact the Elderly has expanded significantly and we currently have over 7,700 volunteers throughout England, Scotland and Wales supporting more than 4,700 older people across 580 groups.
