We are an international education charity that supports the most marginalised individuals and communities around the world. 

We believe that education, in particular literacy is a powerful enabling tool for transformation in a community.  Through education and training projects we seek to provide the skills and knowledge for individuals to transform their own lives.

In 2009/2010 we supported more than 100,000 individuals in 14 countries.  By working through grassroots partners we help those hard-to-reach groups that are overlooked by others, particularly people who have reduced access to education because of their sex, physical abilities, location or wealth. 

Just a few examples of our current projects show the variety and impact of our work: we are boosting food security in rural Cameroon, improving menstrual hygiene in India, supporting post-election peacebuilding in Kenya and providing legal rights advice to empower women in Rwanda.
