The Childrens Trust is a national charity providing a unique combination of care, therapy and education to some of the UK’s most severely disabled children.

Some of these children have been born with disabilities and some have suffered a brain injury as the result of a tragic accident or illness. Most cannot walk or talk, and have impaired hearing or vision or both. Many cannot swallow and require feeding by tube and some cannot breathe independently.

There are around 75 children in our care at any one time and we help hundreds of families every year in many ways, including:

• Residential Care
• Short Break
• Rehabilitation for children with acquired brain injuries
• Transitional care between hospital and home
• Outreach- caring for children their own home
• The Childrens Trusts School, St Margrets

The care we give comes at a cost and this is not fully met from statutory sources. We rely on our supporters’ voluntary donations to meet the full cost. Volunteer fundraisers like you play an important role in raising money and awareness for the Trust and help us to continue caring for children and families who so desperately need it.

 Why help The Children’s Trust?

• The Children’s Trust opened the UK’s first dedicated paediatric rehabilitation unit, specialising in severe brain injury and still provides over 3/4 of the nation’s beds for intensive rehabilitation of children with acquired brain injuries.

• Every year over 5,000 children in the UK sustain severe head injuries. This is in addition to the unrecorded number of children who suffer non-traumatic brain damage caused by stroke, brain tumour and infections such as meningitis.

• Every day 75 children in the UK are born or diagnosed with a severe disability or rare syndrome.

• The Childrens Trust also runs the only school in the UK entirely dedicated to the education and care of children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, with its own developmental curriculum.
