Bromley Mencap provides a range of services and activities to improve the life chances of people with disabilities, of all ages, their families and carers. They are a user-led independent organisation with over 1500 members. They represent their views and campaign on their behalf for equality. Their range of services include:
- Telephone helpline
- Information, advice, support and advocacy for families, parents and people with disabilities
- Training and employment scheme
- 2 Childminding Networks, one for children and young people with complex needs
- Mutual Carers Support and Respite Project
- Brokerage
- One-to-one welfare benefits support
- Micro-enterprise scheme
- 2 Weekly Job Clubs
- User involvement and representation support on the Learning Disability Partnership
- Inclusive social and leisure activities including half term discos and theatre workshops
- Buddying
- Outdoor Activity Club
- Keep Fit Classes
- Summer Scheme for Young Adults
- Older Carers Lunches
They are currently running an anti-bulling and hate crime campaign. They work closely in partnership with a range of organisations both statutory and voluntary. In addition they organise a Disability Awards event.
They need to raise approximately £750,000 per year to keep their services and activities running.
