Across the developing world, disabled people are amongst the poorest of the poor.
- An estimated 97% of disabled children dont go to school.
- 96-97% of people with disabilities in the developing world have no access to the rehabilitation services they need.
We work hand in hand with disadvantaged disabled people to enable them to participate in education, employment and community life.
We aim to reduce poverty and increase self-sufficiency amongst disabled people through rehabilitation, access to education, training and advocacy.
In Cambodia, we run physical rehabilitation centres where professionally trained, local staff members provide physiotherapy, prosthetic limbs, orthoses (braces) and wheelchairs. Our clients include people affected by landmine/UXO accidents, polio, road traffic accidents, cerebral palsy, leprosy, club foot and diabetes.
We also run community-based rehabilitation projects to assist disabled children into school and adults into employment and self-employment.
We run three training centres in Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, where we train prosthetist-orthotists: rehabilitation specialists who are qualified to prescribe and fit artificial limbs and orthopaedic braces. These skills are vital for the mobility and integration of people with disabilities.
Our work is making a difference to so many peoples lives: but with your help we can do even more.
Please support our work - step by step, we can make a difference.
