Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning registered charity with a simple mission: to enable people living with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature, themselves and their community, and retain a sense of adventure in their lives. Exercise, fresh air and stimulation can help people retain their skills and interests for longer, improve overall health and wellbeing and have a positive impact of the lives of people living with dementia and their carers and families. Dementia Adventure is based in Essex but works nationally with an international following in over 130 countries.
Often a person living with dementia finds that their life changes dramatically, they become socially isolated and often house-bound with little opportunity to enjoy activities they once would have enjoyed. They often feel that holidays, travel and outdoor activity are things that are no longer available to them. Yet keeping active can improve physical and emotional health and wellbeing and social interaction and can even slow down the symptoms of dementia.
We provide a range of services – all with nature in mind. We focus on what people can do and not what they can’t.
Dementia Adventure - small-group short breaks such as sailing, canal boat and walking holidays and other small bespoke group holidays as an alternative to traditional respite.
Training and consultancy - for carers, conservation charities, care homes, health and social care, with the aim of increasing understanding and encouraging positive risk taking
