Family Holiday Association
Homepage
The Family Holiday Association was established in 1975 by Joan and Patrick Laurance, and is the only national charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged families access holidays.
All of the families we help are living in poverty and many are struggling to cope with additional issues such as poor housing, bereavement, family break-up, chronic illness or domestic violence. Families are referred to us by welfare agents such as GPs, social workers and teachers, or other charities such as Barnardo's and the NSPCC.
A simple break away can make a huge difference to the families, many of whom have never had a holiday before. As well as improving well-being and reducing stress, we have found that a break can increase self-esteem and confidence, provide new skills and widen perspectives.
“My heart melts when I hear the youngest daughter talking about the fun she had on this holiday. There is very little fun in her life.”
- Welfare agent, Darlington
