Housing For Women
Homepage
Housing for Women is dedicated to providing homes for women living in London who are in the greatest housing need especially those rejecting domestic violence and other forms of violence.
We provide safe and secure family accommodation for women with children, flats for single women and refuges for women and their children escaping domestic violence.
We champion supported housing projects that combat violence against women and we develop move-on accommodation for those projects to enable women to get back to independent life.
Housing for Women’s Refuges for women escaping domestic violence provide safe havens for women and their children who are at risk from current or former partners or family members. Women come to us suffering physical injuries, psychological trauma and often in fear of their lives. The children have also witnessed their mothers abuse or directly experienced domestic violence themselves. We provide practical and emotional support to women and their children both in our refuges and in the wider community. Our teams also provide outreach to schools, advocacy for victims accessing the criminal justice system, counselling, outings and play activities for their children. For many of the women and children the refuge is the first setting where they feel safe and secure and to able to start to rebuild their lives.
Housing for Women’s Re-Place Project provides temporary homes and outreach support. Women come to us still suffering the physical and emotional trauma of their ordeal at the hands of sex-traffickers. They have been kidnapped, imprisoned in brothels and exploited and abused for profit. We provide a range of support including: securing counselling for post-traumatic stress and other mental health issues; improving self-esteem and tackling feelings of isolation; helping women to re-establish trust and personal boundaries; liaising with solicitors regarding immigration; practical financial assistance and budgeting; help with literacy. Above all we treat our clients as capable individuals who are realising their personal goals.
Housing for Women’s Re-Unite Project aims to break the cycle of family breakdown and offending for mothers leaving the prison system. The project provides housing and support for 6 to 12 months enabling a woman released from prison to be re-united with her children and helping her put her life and those of her children back together.
