Mayamiko - Bricks of Hope
Mayamiko are currently working with disadvantaged women on the Mayamiko Cotton Project in Malawi. The project provides training in sewing and tailoring to local women, who are affected by the HIV pandemic or are carers of HIV orphans. They are working towards a recognised qualification which will give them the opportunity to earn a living: working for others, self employed or creating a Mayamiko Trust production unit.
The project has already trained groups of women in the different textile processes: weaving or knitting, cutting, sewing, tailoring, all the way through the finished garments, some of which have been featured on Vogue, Grazia, Cosmopolitan and The Guardian.
The current focus is now on obtaining the raw materials to build a sustainable skills and production centre in Lilongwe, Malawi, where currently the Mayamiko trainees learn and work outdoors. The target is 200,000 bricks, each brick representing 50 pence.
So please help Mayamiko to help others by donating bricks for our project!
Thank you...
