Open Door, Young People's Consultation Service
Homepage
Open Door provides highly respected, professional counselling and psychotherapy for young people and parents. Our aims are:
- To deliver counselling and psychotherapy to young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties.
- To reduce risk of suicide and self harm and ameliorate the effects of abuse, trauma and mental ill health.
- To enhance educational and employment opportunities.
- To promote the evaluation of our work towards development of evidence based services.
- To deliver the ‘Every Child Matters’ targets.
Open Door works with young people experiencing difficulties including depression, self-harm, suicidality and psychosis. Many have endured abuse, trauma, and violence. Some are managing pregnancy and parenthood. They are often marginalised and reluctant to access statutory services. Last year, 169 young people were offered 2,023 appointments.
Open Door also delivers services to parents and carers of adolescents. A £341k Lottery grant in 2007 has funded expansion and outreach.
