For several years now, Kirkcaldy Rotary Club has been supporting projects in Tanzania, working in partnership with local Rotary clubs. You can find more information about these projects on our website.

The club has become involved in support for albino children, who face many challenges. Those include risk of serious abuse from attacks to acquire their body parts, which local witch doctors believe to have magical properties. Project work has focussed on providing protective UV spectacles, low vision aids, sun hats and sunscreen.
In order to target the attacks and educate school children, the club plans to commission a childrens book which will challenge prejudice against albinos. It will be distributed free to all schools in Tanzania.
The fundraising target is £20,000.
The club has organised a trip for its members to visit the project in January 2012, and 5 of those going on it - the crazy ones - will also climb Mt Kilimanjaro. The hill - all 19,000 ft of it - is conveniently located in the same part of the country as the project.
The climb will raise funds for the project. Im one of the crazy ones making the climb, and Im asking you to support the fundraising effort by making a donation. All participants are paying all their own costs, so all money raised will go to the cause.
