The Waterside Charitable Trust raises funds for health, sanitation and youth programmes in Africa.
Its main focus is currently in Kenya and in the slums of the city of Kisumu. Kisumu, on the banks of Lake Victoria is Kenyas third largest city.
Most of our work is carried out in Obunga, home to 12,000 people who live in shanty buildings made of iron sheet and wood and who earn less than $1 a day.
Toilets in the area are simple pit latrines that feed into the dirty river that runs through Obunga, helping spread disease.
Thusfar we have built one toilet block, a community centre and have helped numerous small businesses in an effort to raise the standard of living.
We are currently constructing a youth centre modeled on that of one of our partner organisations, The Hunslet Club in Leeds.
