Our committees Secretary Chantal Cadle and Treasurer Katie Merrylees are running the Great North Run on Sunday 18th September 2011. They are running to raise money for Whitley Bay Operatic Society and Cancer Research UK. Any donations are greatly received and will be split 60/40 between the two charities.

Whitley Bay Operatic Society (WBOS) was formed in October 1911 and was then named The Whitley Bay Monkseaton and District Operatic Society. Productions started in such places as the Livingston hall and finally progressed to the Whitley Bay Playhouse. We perform two musicals each year usually in November and April taking up to six months in rehearsals twice a week. We currently have about 100 members but are always looking for new talent so if you can sing and dance (just a little!) and wish to join us, then get in touch at www.wbos.org.

Cancer Research UK is a cancer research and awareness charity in the United Kingdom. Its aim is to reduce the number of deaths from cancer. As the worlds largest independent cancer research charity it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Research activities are carried out in institutes, universities and hospitals across the UK, both by the charitys own employees and by its grant-funded researchers. It also provides information about cancer and runs campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the disease and influencing public policy.
