The Wessex Neurological Centre Trust
Homepage
Brain Tumour, Brain Injury, Stroke, Alzheimer’s, Epilepsy, Spinal Injury, Brain Haemorrhage, Hydrocephalus, Motor Neurone Disease, Sleep Disorders, Dementia.... these are just a few of the conditions that are treated at the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC), the provider of specialist neurological services to patients across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Sussex, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. The Smile4Wessex Appeal aims to improve the range and quality of patient care at the WNC by raising funds to provide new equipment and facilities that would not otherwise be available, and by sponsoring pioneering research into new treatments for a variety of neurological conditions. Previously funded projects at the Centre include a dedicated neurological intensive care ambulance, a Paediatric Video-Telemetry Suite which is used to asses children with severe epilepsy for life-changing corrective surgery and a state-of-the-art neurosurgical operating microscope fitted with fluorescence imaging technology, which enables surgeons to see real-time images of blood-flow in the brain during neurovascular surgery, such as for the clipping of aneurysms. Our latest appeal will see the charity work in partnership with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust to create a world-class children's unit, the Smile4Wessex Children's Neurosciences Centre.
