Samaritans provides confidential emotional support 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. We don't make judgements, and we don't offer advice. The York branch was founded in 1967 and is one of 202 branches nationwide. We aim to have two telephone lines manned 24 hours and day, 365 days a year, and are open 12 hours a day to visitors. All of this is made possible by over 120 volunteers who take 1400 calls and respond to 500 emails and texts a month. This dedication is supported by generous public donations which are our sole source of income. Your support in helping us keep open is greatly appreciated.
