Help build a school in remote Sierra Leone

This page has been set up to give the ever-expanding spiral surrounding Kate Gross an opportunity to do something she would be very proud of. Kate requested that when she died, instead of flowers, donations be given to Street Child, a charity she talked about in her blog post about how we must exercise our muscles of compassion

Street Child have suggested that we designate donations to build a school in Sierra Leone. Their Every Child in School programme has already helped some 6,000 children in neglected rural areas of the country gain access to education. However with an estimated 300,000 with no access to primary education and an increasing number of children orphaned by the Ebola epidemic, there is still a long way to go.

Kate was the CEO of the charity Africa Governance Initiative, and the work she did in Africa has had far reaching effects.  Its work across 7 different countries involves anything from delivering better healthcare to facillitating education reform, and has in recent months been instrumental in providing support during the ebola crisis. Sierra Leone was a country that held a very special place in Kates heart. This is a chance for us all to help change lives, as she did with her work every day.

We hope to raise £15,000 in order to set up a permanent school for the community. Your donations will be very gratefully recieved. If you would like to run your own fundraising events for the cause, please get in touch. Thank you.

Lots of love xx

Jo Gross

Just finished reading Late Fragments. Probably the most inspirational, warm and compelling book I have ever read. I hope this project SOARS.

This donation is given in the memory of Kate, a beautiful, intelligent, wife and mother whose life was cut far too short. I did not know Kate but her book has given me an insight into her life and beautiful family.
