Acre Sustainble Wine Tasting 2017

Charities

The London Community Foundation
We make a difference to the lives of Londoners by connecting people who need help with those who are willing to give. That’s what we do. The London Community Foundation are dedicated to improving the lives of London’s most disadvantaged. Child poverty, unemployment, isolation, homelessness, domestic violence and gang crime are just some of the issues we are tackling through our grant making. With the generosity and involvement of our donors, we have invested over £40 million into more than 5,000 charitable projects across the capital since we started in 1995. Last year alone, through £5.5 million of funding we made over 940 grants touching the lives of an estimated 310,000 Londoners. Visit www.londoncf.org for more information.
Pancreatic Cancer Action
Pancreatic Cancer Action (PCA) has been set up by a very rare survivor of the disease who's mission it is to improve survival rates by getting more people diagnosed in time for surgery. Only 3% of pancreatic cancer patients will live beyond 5 years after diagnosis. This dreadful statistic has been the same for over 40 years. Why? Because sadly only 10% of patients are diagnosed in time for surgery - currently our only potential for a cure. Pancreatic cancer has been underfunded for decades. Despite being the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK, pancreatic cancer receives only 1% of total research funding. It is vital that we raise awareness of this dreadful disease so more will go to their doctors in time. PCA is working on public awareness campaigns to do just that. We want medical professionals to have their knowledge refreshed so they are better able to spot the disease sooner and manage treatment for patients better which is why we have written and produced fully-accredited e-learning training programmes on diagnosing pancreatic cancer for GPs. We are also looking into funding of research specifically into early diagnosis - for simple tests that can enable a faster diagnosis and save lives. PCA is small team and we rely completely on the generosity of our supporters and fundraisers in order for us to carry out our work. Please support us in our mission to "Change the Numbers" for pancreatic cancer. Every donation, large or small is very gratefully received. Thank you.
4louis
4Louis aim to provide hospitals free of charge with memory boxes to be given to bereaved parents who suffer the trauma of stillbirth or neonatal death. The charity also supports Hospitals with other bereavement items such as Cuddle cots, digital camera equipment, and various other services
Operation Orphan
Operation Orphan is a charity designed to create a brighter future for orphans and vulnerable children in our world. For many of these children, education, employment and a decent standard of living are simply out of reach. Our vision is to improve the quality of their lives in a holistic, culturally relevant and sustainable way. Our aim is to develop and release a substantial resource of finance, products and professional skill, through five core strands; education, health, sustainable development, poverty relief and spiritual and psychosocial care. Major issues addressed through the projects include extreme poverty, harsh winter conditions, HIV/AIDS, urban slums, human trafficking and inadequate access to health care, education, clean water and safe sanitation.
Mq: Transforming Mental Health
Our vision is simple: to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. With the help of our supporters and a global network of leading scientists we can make this a reality. Together we are championing and funding research into mental health that will change millions of lives.

Update: GRENFELL TOWER EMERGENCY APPEAL

Like many of you, we've been shocked and saddened by the devastating fire at Grenfell Tower and so for the remainder of this fundraising drive, alongside our four charities, we've decided to support The London Community Foundation.

The LCF administrates the Evening Standards Dispossessed Fund and has invested over £55 million into more than 11,500 charitable projects across the capital since they started in 1995.

20% of donations will go to the LCF, helping those who have been injured, bereaved, left destitute or traumatised by this tragedy.

Please join us for an evening of great wine, networking and fundraising!

In order to be added to the guest list, we ask for a minimum donation of £25 (please put your name next to the donation so we know who you are!)

All monies raised will go to the four charities that Acre are supporting this year. See the note below from Acre's Founder Andrew Cartland:

Dear All

Every year Acre undertake a physical challenge to raise much needed funds. This year, in September, we are taking on the Le Chemin de la Liberté, aka The Freedom Trail.

This is a demanding four day trek in the Pyrenees, which will take us from France over the high mountains into Spain. Our route was one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from occupied France.

Like last year, we are supporting causes which are very personal to Acre employees, ‘charity begins at home as they say'!

There are 10 people walking the Freedom Trail this year - myself, Tanith, Owain, Jack, Ross, Marie, Georgie, Katy, Greg and Joel.

About this years charities

Josh’s Dad… died of Pancreatic Cancer, aged 42. His diagnosis was sudden and unexpected. Pancreatic Cancer is amongst the most aggressive and hardest to treat forms of cancer, with a survival rate of between 2% – 5% over the last 50 years. Pancreatic Cancer Action was founded by a survivor and the charity work tirelessly to support early detection and treatment, believing that a full recovery is possible.

Andy’s close friends lost their baby daughter, Genevieve, soon after birth. Today in the UK, 17 families will suffer the trauma of a stillbirth or neonatal death. 4Louis, a family run charity, support and help these families through the grieving process. They specialise in supplying hospitals with Cold Cots, a piece of equipment allowing parents to spend up to 72 hours with their baby after death, as well as memory boxes which help parents capture memories of their children.

Marie’s charity, MQ Mental Health are the first major charity funding much-needed scientific research to transform the lives of everyone affected by mental illness. Having been one of the 1 in 4 people affected by mental illness herself, this is a cause close to her heart. Their vision is to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. Research into the underlying causes is hugely under-funded and prevention is as important as the cure.

Operation Orphan is a charity chosen on behalf of everyone within Acre. Our original link is via our CEO’s school friend who 12 months ago had the idea of organising a 650 mile run throughout the UK and Sierra Leone to raise awareness much need funds to support a specific group of Ebola orphans. The Acre Foundation supported the run by providing the running kit. But Operation Orphan impacts the lives of orphans not just in Africa but across the globe, including the UK, and we want to continue our support.

Their goal is to improve the quality of life for orphans and vulnerable children in a holistic, culturally relevant and sustainable way – focused on the following ‘pillars’; sustainable development, education, healthcare, poverty relief and pyschosocial help.

All of the funds raised will go directly to our chosen charities. If you donate from this page your money will be split equally between all four causes.

Thank you for your generosity. Rest assured, the pain of the climb will reflect good value for money!

Thank you,

Andrew Cartland
