Andrew / Paddy's London Marathon Page
Update 15th April: Less than 24 Hrs to go now! Am a little nervous now, and that's mostly because my charity has set up lots of media interviews, so i might get my 15 minutes of fame.
Thanks again to all those who've sponsored me.
Update 07th April: Only a week and a bit to go. I'm very glad indeed that my longest training runs are now behind me, and the last week is all about recovery before the big day (or eating lots in my book!). The longest run i've done so far was 21.5 miles, and i've had to do more than a half marathon distance over the last 4 weeks, so my legs have suffered a little. A little nervous that the weather might not suit a plastic inflatable Sumo suit, but that's my only concern. Thanks again to all those who sponsored me.
Update 13thFeb: I had a trial run in the sumo suit. It was a gruelling 12 miles off road up and down the muddy hills around where we live. It's a race called the Dursley Dozen, and i was the only person in fancy dress!!
Update 11Feb:- I will now be running the Marathon dressed in a Sumo Suit (as if it wasn't hard enough!!!) and will be aiming to break the Guinness World record in the process. Surely this level of stupidity requires some sponsorship!
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you may know, I’ve decided to run the London Marathon in 2011, and have been awarded a place running for Oxfam.
My reasoning for entering is now getting a little vague, since each training session seems to be getting more and more painful, but I believe it did start out with thoughts like “it’s a once in a lifetime challenge” and “you have to run a marathon once in your life” and “if girls can do it then surely I can!” and such like. Now it seems to be more about trying to punish my knees for some long forgotten grievance!
My aim is to try and achieve a reasonable time,…for at least the first 5 miles! After that my only concern is try and finish the race at all (anything less than 7 hours and I’ll be quite happy!)
Before anyone asks, I’ll not be bowing to peer pressure and wearing a Rhino outfit, or sticking on a beard! Also if I do agree to any of these things whilst drunk, then it doesn’t stand, and I’m allowed to go back on my word! ....however after saying all that, I may have accidentally promised Oxfam that i will be doing it in a Sumo suit, so if i can't out of it, you may see me on TV!
The more I get sponsored the more pressure I’ll feel to finish, so please give freely. As I’m sure most of you are aware, Oxfam is a major NGO that aims to deliver aid and development work that overcomes poverty and suffering around the world, and is a very worth while charity to run for.
Thanks again,
Andrew / Paddy
