The Daisy Garland
A family-run national children’s charity providing active support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their parents/carers. The charity was set up in memory of our daughter Daisy who tragically died at 6 years of age from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). We provide NHS hospitals with ketogenic dietitians - a medically recognised and accepted way of treating drug resistant epilepsy. This diet is not widely available on the NHS due to lack of funding. We also provide grants for night-time breathing monitors to children with drug-resistant epilepsy.

My page:

Amelie a bright, beautiful little girl aged 10 is the daughter of one of our team members and was diagnosed with Epilepsy when just 18 months old.  Despite trying several drugs with many side effects that have caused lots of problems, recently Amelie’s fits have increased in severity and frequency.  To try and bring her Epilepsy under control Amelie is now on the Ketogenic Diet under the guidance of a Ketogenic Dietitian funded by the Daisy Garland Charity.

The Daisy Garland charity was set up in November 2004 to keep Daisy’s memory alive and to help other little children like her.  It funds an increasing number of Ketogenic Dietitians who work in National Health Hospitals treating hundreds of children with intractable epilepsy.  It is the only UK charity funding Ketogenic Dietitians - each dietitian costs up to £45,000 per annum.

Having seen some of the impact Epilepsy has on Amelie, her brother and parents we decided that we wanted to do something to help and Ditzy Girls for Daisy Garland (DG4DG) was born. Our challenge is to follow the coast path from Torcross to Bigbury a distance of 26 miles over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd July.

We have set a target of £3,750 which will fund a Dietitian for one month. Any donation, no matter how small, you can make which will help us achieve this will be much appreciated.
