2012 Étape is once again returning to the Alps, this time to the Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in the south-east of France.

Starting from the town of Albertville, host-town to the 1992 Winter Olympics, the Acte 1 Étape du Tour route tackles the iconic climbs of the Col de la Madeleine (2000m) and the Col de la Croix de Fer (2067m), before reaching the town of St Jean-de-Maurienne via the Col du Mollard (1638m) and finishing with the ascent to the ski-station of La Toussuire (1705m), part of Les Sybelles ski resort. At 144km but with 3 Hors Categorie cols, this route will be sure to test your mettle!

Meanwhile, the following elements will let you chart the race course on a map:

Albertville – Tours en Savoie – La Bathie – Cevins - Celiers – Col de La Madeleine – Saint François Longchamp - La Chambre –Sainte Etienne de Cuines – Col du Glandon – Col de la Croix de Fer– Saint Sorlin d’Arves – Col du Mollard – Albiez le vieux - Saint Jean de Maurienne – Fontcouverte – Le Corbier – La Toussuire.

The race length indicated on this profile is the final one for the amateurs Etape  152 km

we will be based in Chambéry for the weekend, which is approximately 50km from the start in Albertville and 70km from the finish in St Jean-de-Maurienne.

We are flying into Lyon  on Friday 6 July and departing from Lyon on Monday 9 July.
