Nyumbani UK and the Hotcourses Foundation
Nyumbani UK and the Hotcourses Foundation aims to make a measurable, tangible difference to the lives of children in some of the poorest parts of the world. We have focused on orphans suffering due to AIDS and HIV living in East Africa. We currently work in partnership with a Kenyan organisation called Nyumbani, a well-established local organisation where there is a track record of effective and corruption free administration. They have three significant projects currently helping over 4,000 children. There is a children's home in Nairobi for HIV positive children, who have been orphaned or abandoned, currently home to just over 100 children; an outreach program named Lea Toto working to support children with HIV and AIDS living in the slums of Nairobi; and the Nyumbani Village which is a community that has been built to give a family home, healthcare, security and an education to children who have lost both their parents to AIDS. In recent years the Foundation has had a strong focus on education within the projects but has also supported capital projects including the building of new homes for children, solar panelling and homes for teachers.

The Hotcourses team raising money for is the Hotcourses Foundation and Nyumbani UK.  Nyumbani is an internationally funded charity in Kenya, which supports three initiatives looking after 4,000 children. The Hotcourses Foundation contributes significantly to the Nyumbani village, which gives homes and education to children affected by HIV/AIDS. There are nearly 1000 children in this village, who are cared for by 100 ‘grandparents’.

The village has three schools, a medical clinic, and land for farming.  Money raised by this fundraising effort will go specifically to the primary school and high school, which between them serve 893 students.

25 members of the Hotcourses team will be taking part in the Tough Mudder event in September. Find out more about the participants below.

I’m running Tough Mudder because if I don’t then I will just sit on a sofa eating crisps watching taped episodes of Jeremy Kyle.  It is my life ambition to not end up on that show. Apart from that, it’s a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for much needed causes.

Lexie

I’m running Tough Mudder because I hate mud, heights, water and fire. Actually I was lucky enough to go and visit the village in Kenya last year and see the true impact our fundraising efforts have on the Hotcourses Primary School. Meeting the children and understanding what they have already faced in their short lives means I am more determined than ever to raise awareness for the foundation. Running through mud seemed like a great next step.

I’m running Tough Mudder because I was coerced into it by Sam. I also suffer from chronic FOMO. God, I’m pathetic.

Anna

Tough mudder? Me? Never! I’m a bit of a scaredy cat sometimes and not the most adventurous...I’ve got my wedding coming up and thought this would be a great opportunity to get fit – but most importantly the reason I’m doing this is  to get out of my comfort zone for a good cause. Please sponsor me to give me confidence for this challenge and to make a difference in children’s lives that are affected by HIV. #toughcat

My name is Ereen and I also go by Chun-Li amongst my peers. I am very passionate about fitness and competitive too so get ready to have your b*tt handed to you in the Tough Mudder. With my Thai boxing skills, this will be a cake walk. I’ve got enough sassy not to rub my victory in your faces. MUAHAHAHA

I have wanted to actively take part in raising money for the Nyumbani Foundation  as it is such a great cause and you can’t get more active than a Tough Mudder Challenge!!

James

Not sure if I am scared or excited for tough mudder, either way I am going to make it my bi*ch. Please donate and be sure that this never happens to cute dogs again.

Poppy

Against my better judgement, I will be taking part in the Tough Mudder in September….mainly so I can continue eating scones guilt free but also because it’s for a FANTASTIC cause. So dig deep people and feel free to come laugh at me crying in the mud.

Aman

I’m not too good at heights, swimming or generally sporty things, but am doing the tough mudder to help raise awareness and money for the Nyumbani Foundation helping HIV & AIDS effected children in Kenya. The cause is amazing, so please donate!

Jamie

So apparently I’m going to attempt to drag my mashed potato-esque body around the Tough Mudder course. With legs far too short for my hilariously long torso, and little to no upper body strength, it’ll be a horror show. Please dig deep, and donate to the amazing Nyumbani Foundation, to make it all worthwhile!

Sam

Tough Mudder is a challenge I’ve always wanted to complete and this was a great opportunity to do it as part of a team as well as raise money for our charity at the same time. Nyumbani UK does great things, so every donation is greatly appreciated!
