Essex Disabled Sports Foundation
The Essex Disabled Sports Foundation provides sporting facilities and opportunities for children with special needs. Each year we arrange a series of Sports Experience Days when 2,000 disabled children throughout East Anglia and the Home Counties are able to participate in over 30 different sporting activies. Every year we hold a Children's Sports Awards Lunch which is attended by over 750 disabled children and their helpers. The sports awards are given to selected children who have displayed partucular endeavour or commitment to overcome the special needs they have to overcome.

Back from holiday and unfortunately 1/2 stone heavier...the race to lose weight is on.

Its obviously been a tough couple of weeks back at home, as it appears not too many runs have been completed by Iwona, Lee, Nick and Gary but the hard work and fitness levels are there now, so just keep the wheels oiled and finish your training with a couple of short ones and a massage if you can get one.

Jackie is looking strong with a few long positive logs on Strava, so hopefully all she keeps that going through to next week.

In terms of fund raising, the last few weeks have really exceeded our expectations but guess the hair dying evening at Tony and Guy ( Bishops Stortford) has done the trick.

Frank Bruno will hopefully be there on Thursday along with a photographer from the Essex Chronicle ( 6.30pm onwards), so hopefully a good opportunity for the Charity to get some exposure.

Anyway, a final thank you to all those who have donated and hopefully we can move forward this week and take us past the 35k mark which is fantastic.

Good luck to all President Sporting club/Essex Disabled Sports foundation runners this week....keep pushing on!

2.5 weeks to go and SO are tapering!

All runners are still in the game although training has been far from easy and non existent in the last 2 weeks from Gary.  As mentioned previously we are nursing some minor injuries but should all make it to the big day.

The miles are in the legs and we are tightly coiled in readiness to be sprung from the traps.... well you know what I mean .

Once again thank you for all your donations and it's looking like 33k could be reached this week, which means the hair will be dyed kindly assisted by Tony and Guy ( Bishops Stortford)

Hair colouring will take place on Thursday at 5pm on the 20th April

Many thanks all ...John

Dear All,  Once again many thanks for all your donations thus far. We are very pleased to have hit the 22k mark with just under 5 weeks to go.

The focus this year is really to raise as much as possible to our chosen Charity as I’m not sure any World records will be broken from our side. That said, with 5 members of team SO running the Marathon for the first time, I’m sure they will have the eye on a certain time, even if it is just to get round and under the 8 hour mark , which apparently allows you to receive a medal.

A few team members were attending the Cheltenham Festival on Friday, so a few long runs were made before Friday this week and JB was looking strong on Saturday with a solid 18 miles run at 10 mins average pace.

Anyway, all back to normal this week, with 2 runs mid-week and 18 miles plus this forthcoming weekend…..massage booked in today at 10.30am

Closing in on 20k…WOW!

At this stage last year, we had surpassed the 15k fund raising mark…well ahead of where we thought we might be but this year and with the help of our family, friends and colleagues, we are closing in on 20k today. This will be a great boost for Team SO who will be out running tomorrow morning with mileage ranging from 10 miles to 16 miles…..deep joy!

Anyway, many thanks for your continued support and good luck this weekend to Iwona, Jackie, Gary, Lee and Nick….GO FOR IT!

The show must go on.

On a personal level, it’s been a struggle since last Friday as I manged to get ill for the first time in many years and on top  of that a few injuries to resolve. Anyway, a short trip to George Cooper Physio, some acupuncture and we are back in the game albeit I feel that I’m back at the start of January…I’m sure that will change over the coming weeks.

Last Saturday, Lee H knocked out an easy 15 miler out of nowhere, Jackie B a 12 miler, Gary P a 14 miler, Nick S,  High altitude training in Antigua circa 20 miles all up,  and coming up from behind Iwona a 9 miler having started training 4 weeks after everyone else  nice work.

Anyway, much of the same this weekend and can’t say I’m looking forward to the run tomorrow having booked a night out with some friends, so some protein this evening and I’m taking the alcohol as my Carbohydrate energy boost but don’t worry Like everyone I’m hoping to drink some water in between.

Good luck all see you on strava.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Virgin Money Giving Page.

Through Virgin Money Giving your donations will be quickly passed to our nominated charity. Virgin Money Giving is a non profit organisation and claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Our Scott Osborn Team, John and Nick Scott, Lee Hilton, Iwona Pachol, Jackie Byrne and Gary Pearce, are running the 2017 London Marathon to raise funds in support of the Essex Sports Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1001176).

This fantastic charity have now raised well over £2million to support schools and organisations, such as Riding for the Disabled.  They work tirelessly to provide sporting facilities and opportunities for disabled children including sports equipment, coaching/tuition, the hire of sports halls and fund special outings and adventure holidays to create positive lasting memories for these deserving youngsters.

Paralympic athletes Noel Thatcher and Giles Long who both received support from the foundation, won Gold Medals at the Paralympics in Atlanta and Sydney and were quoted as saying the medals were a testament to the magnificent work the foundation does for the young and disabled.

Taking part in sport not only increases a child's self confidence but it also helps with their physical development and self esteem too.  As a child moves into adulthood it can also help them to deal with any challenges they may face in later life.

Please help us reach our target of £30k for this wonderful charity.  Together we can ensure more deserving young people continue to benefit from their support bringing smiles and happy memories to last a lifetime.

We thank you very much in anticipation of your support.

John, Nick, Lee, Iwona, Jackie & Gary
