AMAR provides health care and education to families living in war zones or in areas of civil disorder and disruption. Our low-key, low-cost, professional approach has won the approval of national governments, the World Health Organisation and UNESCO. We provide services to over 750,000 people in Iraq and Lebanon who would otherwise have limited or no access to health care and education. How do we do this? We build, enlarge, equip, staff and maintain Primary Health Care Centres which provide a full range of health care services. We operate special mother-child health care units which support women before, during and after pregnancy, helping to reduce maternal mortality rates; and provide neo-natal resuscitation training to reduce infant mortality rates. We operate mobile health clinics which deliver health care to families living in remote areas. We provide health education and teach mothers and children simple preventative health measures which can save ultimately save lives. We teach literacy and numeracy to almost 9,000 adult learners, including male, female and youth prisoners. We provide 1,000 Iraqi widows with education and skills training to help them build stable and promising futures for themselves and their children. We teach I.T. and English language to over 15,000 school children and university students, as well as informing them about human rights and encouraging political participation.
Her Centre is a women's rights and advice service for women needing help with domestic or sexual abuse, benefits or debt problems, homelessness, help back into employment or just linking into their local community. As well as one to one advice and crisis intervention we offer training, social groups, forums on key issues for women and individual and group counselling. We work to empower women to get out of crisis, make their own decisions and move forward with their lives.

Lebanon Mountail Trail - 2012
In September this year I will be hiking 440 km (275 miles) across Lebanon to raise money to support the work of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation and Her Centre.
I will be walking the length of the Lebanon Mountain Trail, which transects more than 75 towns and villages at altitudes ranging from 600 to 2,000 metres (2,000 – 6,500 feet) above sea level.
My target is to raise £20,000 in sponsorship and donations.
