Links International Trust
Established in 1985 as a registered charity, Links International works with partners in the west and in developing countries to educate, empower, resource and inspire individuals and communities to break free from the cycle of poverty. This is achieved through community healthcare, micro-enterprise development, training resources, income-generating projects and strategic partnerships. The result is holistic and sustainable. Links provides project support, oversight, and strategic advice to its partners. Accountability is key to ensure successful, sustainable projects. Links invests time and resources in project visits, communication and financial reporting. ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’ (Chinese Proverb) We love teaching people how to fish but believe that, if they are not given a fishing rod, they may still starve. That’s why Links ‘links’ education to practical projects with a strategy that, quite literally, save lives.

26 on the 26th!

Can't quite believe it but we are actually running the London marathon this year… Proof if ever it was needed that anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

George Patton U.S. Army General once said, “Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

So that is how we will win this marathon challenge, by setting our mind on the target and not giving up despite the aches and pains that come from long distance training. Don't underestimate the power of team work too. Supporting each other through the hard times mean we'll get through it together.

Neither of us are runners or athletes but we count it a privilege to be able to take part in an event of a lifetime and experience this iconic race. We are really excited if not a little daunted but the prospect of achieving the end goal spurs us on.

We are also privileged to partner with our chosen charity Links International. Based in Littlehampton W. Sussex they have been established since 1985, a small but influential charity reaching out both home and abroad. They have a heart to work alongside people in such a way as to enable and empower rather than do it for them. We really like their ethos! You can find lots more info about them at www.linksinternational.org.uk

Fond memories of Rich Hubbard, former CEO and long term Links worker are an inspiration as he worked and travelled tirelessly for the charity. It was undoubtedly Richard who sowed the seeds in the early noughties that made travelling to Africa and being involved in 3rd world projects seem possible for ordinary people like us.

Remember the film Evan Almighty? “How do you change the world? One Act of Random Kindness at a time."  This is our Act of Random Kindness.
