About Me:

In May 2012 I watched my father in law Tony complete his first Ironman event for his 50th birthday. The distances were:

Swim: 2.4miles, then Cycle: 112 miles, then Run: a full 26.2 mile marathon, one after the other within a 17 hour time limit.

I couldn't run to the end of our street.

I was inspired, however, to start running. (Well, jogging. Well... Walking fast... ish) Since then I've finished a few 10k runs, along with the Great North Run 1/2 Marathon and also 3 full marathons. Chuffed!

For a triathlon though, you have to swim and cycle before the running part. I didn't own a bike and never learned how to swim... Bit of a problem for a wannabe triathlete! I've since borrowed a bike and have been taking a few swimming lessons, and earlier in the year I finished my first (and only) triathlon. It was a short one, nowhere near Ironman distance.

Which brings me to this:

About The Challenge:

In July I'm going to be doing the Ironman UK event.

It's a chuffing lot of commitment and training to be doing, training 5/6 days a weeks and averaging around 12-15 hours per week of swimming/cycling/running. Won't give me much time for watching WWE or looking out my window. Plus I work full time and have a wife. Oh my wife! I better tell her about all this..!

ANYWAY! This is what's involved:

2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle, then 26.2 mile marathon run. One after the other. Within 17 hour time limit. Please feel free to wish me luck, but I'd prefer it if you donate money as well. :)

You can keep track of my progress at http://www.hemingwayrun.com and read about all this stuff in more detail if you like.

Thank you!
