Mark Livesey's 2016 Cycle Slam

Fundraiser:

I have decided to sign up for the Dallaglio Cycle Slam 2016 and am cycling from Andorra to Barcelona which is 530.8km and a climb of 7814m.

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam 2016 is raising money for a project that Lawrence Dallaglio set up through the Dallaglio Foundation over a year ago called RugbyWorks

RugbyWorks uses rugby to transform the aspirations of disengaged young people: 14 to 16 year olds at increased risk of long-term unemployment, criminality and imprisonment. They aim to make a profound impact on the marginalised lives of those excluded from mainstream education – increasing self-worth, improving life skills and boosting employability.

Working in Pupil Referral Units, they give young people the practical support, experience and ability that helps them believe and invest in the possibility of a better future. Often for the very first time.

They don’t expect that to happen overnight. Which is why it’s important they’re central to each school’s curriculum – so they can build long-term relationships. A small group of just 10 young people per school get to know their coaches over 30 weeks per year, for two years.  They currently do this in London, Newcastle, Bristol and the Rhondda Valley.

Why do they do this? Because they know there are a huge range of factors leading to students being excluded from mainstream education. And, whatever that reason, they don’t believe that should signal exclusion from mainstream society too.

Although cycling around 100km a day for 5 days will be a challenge, it is not nearly as tough as some of the challenges their young people face on a daily basis, which is why I am determined to raise £3,000 from this event.

Please donate generously so I can make a positive change to more young people's lives.

Many thanks for your support.
