Charities

SOFT UK
SOFT UK provides information & support for those affected by trisomy 13 or trisomy 18, (Patau's and Edwards' syndromes), and related disorders. We help parents when they are given a prenatal diagnosis and after any decision they might make as to whether they choose to have a termination or decide to continue the pregnancy. We support those caring for a baby or child with these conditions, and families if a bereavement occurs. SOFT UK publishes booklets about these syndromes, and provides telephone support, links to others and shared experiences through newsletters and annual SOFT Days. We welcome enquiries from doctors, nursing staff and students. Visit our website for online information booklets, data about these conditions, photographs of babies and children, and our new SOFT Stars Remembrance page.
Cancer Support Scotland
Here to provide emotional and practical support - on a one-to-one basis and through community based groups - to anyone affected by cancer including family, friends and carers.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Hi All,

I am planning on running the "Great Scottish Run" Half-Marathon in Glasgow on the 6th of October and I am hoping that you can help me to raise some donations for the following two charities in memory of both my brother Paul and baby Ben McLaughlin. :

  • Cancer Support Scotland
  • SOFT UK

As Many of you know I recently lost my wee brother Paul Mclaughlin (14-09-72 - 31-07-13) to bowel and secondary liver cancer after a very short illness.  Paul was only 40 years old and will be very sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Paul received lots of help and support from the many doctors and nurses who worked with him in the last few months, in particular, I would like to express my family and I's gratitude to the McMillan nurses and especially all of the staff at the Argowan Hospice in Greenock for the succour, respect and dignity they were able to provide for Paul in his last few days.  I would therefore like to donate half the money raised to "Cancer Support Scotland" to aid them in providing support and assistance to other cancer sufferers and their families in Scotland.

I would also like to donate any remaining funds to "SOFT UK" who provided counseling and support to both my wife Claire and I and also the rest of our 5 kids when we lost our latest baby who was still-born at 38 weeks last year.  Unfortunately, Ben was diagnosed with Edwards syndrome - Trisomy 18 which is a chromosomal illness - at his 3 month scan and we had such a terrible time dealing with it during the many long weeks of Claires pregancy but we were hoping to at least see him for a little while.  Little Ben was just like all the other babies - who we now feel incredibly blessed that they are all healthy and fit - we have had when he was born, apart from that he obviously was never able to open his little eyes.

Here is a picture of wee Ben :

Baby Ben

many thanks in advance for any donations no matter how big or small.

Kindest regards,

Martin McLaughlin
