SOFT UK
SOFT UK provides information & support for those affected by trisomy 13 or trisomy 18, (Patau's and Edwards' syndromes), and related disorders. We help parents when they are given a prenatal diagnosis and after any decision they might make as to whether they choose to have a termination or decide to continue the pregnancy. We support those caring for a baby or child with these conditions, and families if a bereavement occurs. SOFT UK publishes booklets about these syndromes, and provides telephone support, links to others and shared experiences through newsletters and annual SOFT Days. We welcome enquiries from doctors, nursing staff and students. Visit our website for online information booklets, data about these conditions, photographs of babies and children, and our new SOFT Stars Remembrance page.

Hey everyone!

As some of you may know, I recently found out that I was lucky enough to get a place in the London Marathon 2015, and am also running the Great West Run (19/10/2014), the Bath half marathon (01/03/2015), Rock Solid Race Exeter (21/03/2014) before finally getting around to the Marathon itself. I'm doing all this for a charity called SOFT UK - a charity that offers support to families who have children born with Trisomy 13/18, also known as Patau's Syndrome and Edwards' Syndrome respectively, the second most common genetic disorder after Down's Synrome. As not so many of you will know, 2 years before I was born my mum had a daughter, who unfortunately was born with Edward's Syndrome, a horrible condition that leaves the individual with numerous internal genetic defects, unable to feed themselves, walk, talk or perform any of the normal everyday actions that are so easy to take for granted. Tragically, both of these illnesses are terminal in the majority of cases, with only 8% of infants surviving beyond their first birthday. SOFT are a charity who help families cope with this awful situation, and one that is very close to our family, and I feel really honoured to be able to help them in any way shape or form. Please donate anything you can to what really is a fantastic cause!
