The Rotary Club of Brackley
Rotary's main objective is service - in the community, in the workplace, and around the globe. The 1.2 million Rotarians who make up more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of Service Above Self. Rotary clubs are open to people of all cultures and ethnicities and are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations. The heart of the Rotary Club is the weekly club meeting - on a Thursday evening in Brackley, when there is often a speaker on charitable or vocational subjects. If you would like more details please visit our website Our support for the local community is varied, often providing equipment for local youth groups and other local organisations. Our support is not always financial; for example we have organised many inter-school competitions such as Youth Speaks, a Rotary public speaking competition and also annual mock job interviews at both Magdalen College School and Chenderit School - hundreds of interviews every year . We also assist other fundraising organisations with their events. We also raise money for overseas projects. These projects are often supervised by overseas Rotary clubs, providing assurance on how money is spent. All monies raised are given directly to the charities or projects with no administration or management fees. Thanks for giving.

Who we are:

Friends of Mithuluni is a project to raise funds to provide clean drinking water for the villagers of Mithuluni in the Eastern Province of Kenya.

“My family from Brackley visited my husband’s family in Kenya and was shocked to see how deprived the villagers are from everyday amenities that we all take for granted here in the UK.

We then took it upon ourselves to make it our mission to provide clean drinking water within the community and support the development of the village.”                                                                              Samantha Nyali

About Mithuluni Village:

Mithulini is located in the Eastern Province of Kenya with an estimated population of 2,500.

There is one river which runs on the outskirts of the village providing water for all the community.

Every year the river runs dry between May and October. To survive, individuals have to dig the river bed to obtain water which then has to be sterilised.

Once the water has been collected, villagers have a one and a half hour walk back home. The water is transported from the river in containers carried by donkeys or people.

How we will help the villagers:

Primary Objective

  • Dig a borehole to allow access to clean water
    • Construct water storage tanks
    • Install generators to pump the water
    • Install sanitising equipment
    • Install taps and piping

 Future Objectives

Install pipes to pump water to all schools and main communal areas allowing easy access for all households

  • Renovate the local primary school
  • Provide tools to help maintain and develop houses and careers
