Mencap Liverpool - Mencap Liverpool is the local Mencap group supporting people with a learning disability and their families in the Liverpool area. We are affiliated to national Mencap but we don’t receive any funding from them or from the council, so we rely on the amazing fundraising efforts of people like you. As we’re a small charity the money you raise will make a huge difference to the lives of people we support. Most people with a learning disability are treated as ‘different’. They do not have the same control over their own lives as the rest of our society and face challenges and prejudice every day. We help give people the control they should have by providing outreach support; information and advice; career coaching; volunteering opportunities; befriending; help to establish circles of support; and work experience placements. We campaign and influence to give people with a learning disability a fair chance to live a normal life without fear of prejudice. The money you raise will enable us to empower individuals whilst helping their support network to grow in number and in confidence.

2012 Liverpool Marathon

14 October 2012

After a great first outing in October with 8,500 entries taken the 2nd RunLiverpool Marathon will be on the confirmed date of Sunday, 14th October. Staged on a course that involves both sides of the River Mersey AND the original Mersey Tunnel runners will experience a challenging, scenic and ultimately rewarding course that takes in many of the iconic buildings and landmarks of Wirral and Liverpool. For 2012 the RunLiverpool Marathon will feature a two day Expo and Registration in the heart of city centre which will add significantly to the big city marathon atmosphere. Come and take part in THE Long And Winding Road Race in 2012. RUN IT! LIVE IT! LOVE IT!

About Mencap Liverpool

Mencap Liverpool supports people with a learning disability, their families and carers across Merseyside. 

The charity provides:

  • support to families in crisis
  • career and personal development coaching for people with a learning disability
  • befriending and social activities
  • workshops for people with a learning disability
  • access to volunteering opportunities.

Mencap Liverpool also campaigns for the rights of people with a learning disability, and works to stop Disability Hate Crime.

Mencap Liverpool's vision is a city where everyone is valued equally, listened to and included. The charity is linked to the national charity Mencap, but independently run and has to raise it's own money to keep local activities running.
