Childrens Hospice South West
At Children’s Hospice South West we help and support children and their families who are living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and we are the only organisation in the South West to provide vital hospice care in a hospice environment to these families. Some families come to us for palliative care, some for emergency care and many for planned respite and a rare opportunity for a break away. But there’s more to it than that. We provide a loving and caring place for every member of the families who stay with us. A place where everyone can begin to forget their worries for a while, be a family again and find expert help and support in facing an uncertain future. Our services are free to the families who need us because we believe that nothing should get in the way of very sick children receiving the very best care. So, with little government funding, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to deliver our promise to ‘make the most of short and precious lives’. Children’s Hospice South West has three purpose-built hospices in the South West; Little Bridge House in North Devon Charlton Farm in North Somerset and Little Harbour in St Austell, Cornwall.

Hi I'm taking part in the Mongol Derby starting on the 9th of August 2017 .

THe Mongol Derby is know as The toughest and Longest Horse race in the World .

The Race takes place on The Mongolisn Steepe covering 1000 Kilometres

or 621 miles  in 10 days . having to Average 62 miles a day or Hayle to Launceston on an average day and Hayle to Exeter on a good day !

Changing horses every 30 Kilometre staying with the local Herders at night ,navigating by GPS the tempreture can vary from -2 at night to + 35 by day ,only being able to carry 5 Kgs  of Luggage ! so that means for me the same clothes for the 10 Days . Crossing open grass country ,Forest sections Desert sections and Rivers and bogs to name a few types .

For me persoally I have to get my weight down to Kgs in my birthday suit ! and I was 95 Kgs when I got a place to ride now down to 80Kgs with a few more Kgs to go that ment loosing 20% of my body weight a challenge in it's self .

The Race is over now it did Finish on day 9 with a day spare ! Along the way I have made some great frieds as we all helped one an other along the way we had highs and lows ,it has been a life changing experiance for me I would like to thank all my friends who help me along the way ,I knew it was going to be tough but that word has a new meaning now Day 3 was the worst with heavy rain and blowing winds the race was halted for a short while as some riders got Hypothermia .

Now looking forward to getting home with my  familly and back to work . x
