Charity

Andi Bull Cancer Trust.
The Andi Bull Cancer Trust is a registered charity which was formed to assist individuals aged 13-25 who are fighting cancer. The aim is to help provide young people with a link between the isolated world of hospital and the outside world. The money raised/donated to the ABC trust will be used to help young people take their minds off cancer.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to my chosen charity, the Andi Bull Cancer Trust. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organization and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this (usually UK resident). I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Why this charity?

Andi Bull battled valiantly with cancer for more than 4 years. At the age of 25 he lost that battle. However, Andi's legacy lives on. His positive attitude in the face of great personal adversity is an inspiration and example to all of us. And before he left us he established the Andi Bull Cancer Trust (see http://www.andibull.org.uk/) which aims to help young people suffering from cancer and undergoing prolonged treatment. Andi is a distant family relative - my brother's wife's cousin. I never actually met the guy but those that did were better for it. By sponsoring me for this run you will help others win the battle that Andi lost.

Why this event?

Grete's Gallop Half Marathon in Central Park, New York City was on October 1, 2011. I finished 8th of 4957 runners in 1:11:21 (see picture left taken mid-race). Two years ago I ran this same race established in honor of Grete Waitz, one of the greatest female athletes of all time. After completing that race I got to meet the unassuming Grete who unbeknown to all but a few was battling with cancer. Just like Andi she lost the battle in April 2011 (see http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/apr/21/grete-waitz-obituary). And just like Andi in her last years, Grete worked tirelessly for the Norwegian cancer charity Aktiv Mot Kreft (Active Against Cancer). So how appropriate I thought that I raise money for the Andi Bull Cancer Trust by running this event.
