Ichthyosis Support Group.
The Ichthyosis Support Group (ISG) is a small user led charity, run almost entirely by volunteers affected by ichthyosis to create a supportive network of sufferers, parents and medical professionals. The charity strives to raise awareness of the condition and the ISG amongst medics and the public. Ichthyosis is a rare genetic condition which predominantly affects the skin. It can affect as few as 1:300,000 people depending on the type of ichthyosis, of which there are many. It is a lifelong condition, usually presenting at birth and may be fatal. For many the daily bathing routine is rigid. Ichthyosis skin requires rigorous scrubbing to remove excessive growth and prevent infections that can cause death. Thick greasy creams need to be applied constantly to prevent the skin from drying out and cracking. If left to dry out it can cause contractures, which can even break bones in tiny fingers and toes and the sufferer endures excruciating pain.

My page:

In October 2016 I was both shocked and terrified to find out that I had been given a ballot place for the 2017 London Marathon and decided I would really like to raise money for the ISG. ISG was an easy decision for me because you are a fantastic charity and do so much for families affected. I will never forget how it felt to have support when we needed it for Emma about 14 years ago! Having made the decision to run a marathon I have since decided to make it an extra challenge by running a second marathon 8 days later in Milton Keynes! I actually started running after I found out I had a benign brain tumour in March 2009, for which I had radiosurgery in Sheffield in December 2009. I was fine other than losing my hearing in my left ear and the tumour was very small thank goodness. I had piled weight on and was feeling sorry for myself so I started running to lose the weight!
