National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by Autism. Over half a million people in the UK have autism. Together with their families they make up over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day. Despite this, autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood. Which means that many of these two million people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need. Together, we are going to change this.

Autism is a serious, lifelong and disabling condition. Without the right support it can have a profound and sometimes devastating effect on individuals and families. Autism is much more common than most people think. There are over half a million people with autism in the UK - that's 1 in 100. With over 18,440 members and 91 branches, the National Autistic Society provides a wide range of advice, information, support and specialist services to 100,000 people each year. A local charity with a national presence, they champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and aim to provide individuals with autism and their families with help, support and services that they can access, trust and rely upon and which can make a positive difference to their lives. I will be walking the National Autistic Society mile with Robyn Steward.  Robyn is 23 and she has Asperger syndrome. Robyn was severely bullied at her mainstream secondary school, which continued in the classroom. Employment has been particularly difficult for Robyn. She has worked in retail environments but found it so stressful due to a lack of understanding from employers that she wouldn’t sleep and then couldn’t cope at work. She’s now happy being self employed and helping to train professionals and mentor young people with autism so they don’t have to go through what happened to her. People presume she doesn’t need any support because she’s so verbally articulate but she struggles with a lot of different things on a daily basis and things get harder when she is anxious. Robyn also has a lot of sensory difficulties with noise, touch and her sight as many people with autism do, which can make the world a frightening place. Robyn and I hope to raise awareness of autism and hope you will donate to support many others with autism across the country.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
