Charity
The Children's Trust is a national charity providing a unique combination of care, therapy and education to some of the UK’s most severely disabled children. Some of these children have been born with disabilities and some have suffered a brain injury as the result of a tragic accident or illness. Most cannot walk or talk, and have impaired hearing or vision or both. Many cannot swallow and require feeding by tube and some cannot breathe independently

26 FOR THE CHILDRENS TRUST
Every year thousands of children across the country have an accident or illness that leaves them with a brain injury so severe that it will affect them for the rest of their lives. The Children's Trust helps children and young people with acquired brain injury re-learn lost skills and regain their independence. I will be walking The Children’s Trust mile with Rebecca Coles. Rebecca is 16 and she came to The children’s Trust for rehabilitation after suffering a severe brain injury in a boat accident in May 2008. The accident left her fighting for her life. In hospital she underwent operations to remove part of her skull and fit a titanium plate. The left side of her body was severely affected, as though she had suffered a stroke, and her mum and dad were told she might never walk again. Rebecca stayed at The Children's Trust for several months and showed amazing determination in her therapy programmes. She is now back at school, doing really well in her GCSEs – something her parents thought might never happen in the days after her accident. Rebecca and I hope that by walking the mile together, we can raise awareness and funding to increase the reach of The Children’s Trust community-based services and add to their on-site accommodation for parents. I hope very much that you will donate to this tremendous charity and support young people like Rebecca.
