Macmillan Cancer Support
At Macmillan, we know cancer can affect everything. Your body, your relationships, your money, everything. But Macmillan is here to help people live life, no matter what. We give you the support you need to hold on to who you are and what’s important. But right now, we can’t reach everyone who needs us. Almost half of us will get cancer, and we need your help to make sure that people get the support they need to face one of the toughest fights of their lives. Life with cancer is still life -let’s help people live it. We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604).

Thank you for visiting my "Ride For A Reason" fundraising page for Macmillian Cancer Support.

On the 12th April 2014 I will start riding from either St Malo or Cabourg on the North East Coast of France heading for Nice where I’ll turn around and ride back covering a similar route.   I intend on breaking the current Guinness Seven Day Cycling World Record of 1740miles by riding in excess of 250miles a day.

The 12th April is a special day for me as it will be five years to the day since I walked out of hospital after being given only a 5% chance of survival following my first cancer diagnosis in 2008 and after having to re learn how to walk. On that day I still only weighed approximately 8 stone instead of my usual 14 but managed to walk from the ward 5 days earlier than planned, before getting in a wheelchair on the other side of the door.

Over the last five years I’ve ridden across countries, continents, been hit by a truck, been diagnosed with cancer for a second time in 2011, Been a part of over £2,000,000.00 of fundraising for charity and had a baby boy with my wife Louise.

However, After all the work and changes Ive faced to get here I think this has been one of the toughest challenges I’ve taken on. At times I feel like I’ve been pushed, pulled, punched, and kicked around, but this ride and the date are important to me so the time has come to stop preparing and to just make it happen, I’m tired of talking about what I want to do so by hook or by crook this is it.

Whilst there are a number of things that still need to be ironed out I’m ready to take to the descent of what has been a very long climb.

In 2014 not only will I take on the Cycling world Record but I’ll also take on number of other events to help support, encourage and ride with other people taking on challenges of their own on behalf of Macmillan Cancer support.

These events include:-

Dragon Ride Wales - 8th June

London to Amsterdam 24hours - 19th July

Ride London 100 - 10th August

London to Newcastle 24hour - 30th August

London to Paris 24 hour - 6th September

Etape Cymru - 14th September

*Plus more to be announced
