Hope and Homes for Children
At Hope and Homes for Children, we believe that above all else, every child should live within a caring family environment. We work with children, their families and communities across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa, to ensure that children grow up in an environment where they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. We move children out of institutions into family-based care, help keep together families at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict, and work to prevent child abandonment.
Making Waves for Autism
Making Waves for Autism provides vital educational resources for autistic children in mainstream schools. We raise funds and purchase equipment, facilities and services that enable children with autism to be included in mainstream education. These resources are not provided by local educational authorities. We believe that by arming teachers in classrooms with better resources, children with autism have the best chance of fulfilling their educational potential.
Earthwatch
Who are we? Earthwatch is an international environmental charity which engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. What do we do? We fund a range of projects concerned with combatting climate change, protecting marine environments, preserving the cultural heritage of environmental hotspots and ensuring the worlds biodiversity is maintained and enhanced. Why fundraise for Earthwatch? Our long-term research and the sheer dedication and hard work of our teams in the field leads to impressive results and groundbreaking findings. By directly supporting field research and educating and engaging thousands of people, Earthwatch has made a significant contribution to achieving a sustainable environment over the past 40 years. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact us. Bert and Heidi's Greenland Kite Expedition

Hi, thanks for visiting our page!  Please give what you can afford, even a couple of pounds will make a difference to our charities.

We are two ordinary parents who are going to try to do something extraordinary: In April we will be setting off on a 900 mile unsupported kite skiing expedition across the Greenland ice cap. This is a true polar endurance challenge, where just surviving in what are some of the most arduous conditions on the planet will be an achievement. Our website www.kitegreenland2011.co.uk has more information about the challenge so do have a look!

We are raising money for three charities that we feel really deserve your support. Making Waves for Autism is a small charity that we are involved with, and all the money that it raises goes to buy resources and services to help autistic children have a better education. We have a six year old autistic boy, Sami, and we know how hard schools and parents work to give these children the best chance to lead full and independent lives.

Hope and Homes for Children works with the most vulnerable children in Central and Eastern Europe. Over 1m children live in desolate, state run institutions across this region. 90% of these are not orphans but have been placed in institutions because they are disabled, and their families cannot care for them.  Hope and Homes for Children works with governments to close these institutions and allow these children to be loved and nurtured in a caring family.

Earthwatch is a fantastic organisation with a unique mission; to fund and organise scientific research into what is undoubtedly the biggest crisis facing humanity and our planet at the moment. They go and work with large corporations to try to make these big guys behave more responsibly, which we think is amazing - after all, no matter how many newspapers we recycle, if the large corporations don't start working hard to cut their carbon emissions and strive towards sustainability, we are going to leave a nasty legacy for the next generation.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed directly to the charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations, however small. Follow our progress on our expedition website at http://www.kitegreenland2011.co.uk
