National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by Autism. Over half a million people in the UK have autism. Together with their families they make up over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day. Despite this, autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood. Which means that many of these two million people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need. Together, we are going to change this.

Doing It Our Way - The New York Marathon

Sophie Walker

My page:

Have you ever tried to swim a marathon? What about cycling a swim-a-thon? Or running a bike challenge?

Living with autism can feel like you're participating in a totally different event to everyone else half the time.

I’m lucky. I will be taking part in the New York Marathon in November – the world’s biggest marathon – and all I have to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other. But with every stride I will be supporting those who often find it difficult to keep going every day.

I will be running for the love of my daughter Grace, who has Asperger's Syndrome and too often faces prejudice and disinterest instead of the support and understanding that she needs.

You can help us, and many more people with autism, by sponsoring my efforts. Your kind donations will go Britain’s National Autistic Society, the UK’s leading charity for people with autism, which provides information, support and pioneering services, and campaigns for a better world for people with autism.

These days there are lots of voices calling for charitable funding, and many people running, cycling and swimming to show their dedication to a cause. Grace and I would be most grateful if you would pick us out among that worthy crowd and show us your support.

You can follow our progress at my blog, which is at http:///

With warm wishes and thanks

Sophie and Grace
