Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Asthma UK is the only charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the 5.4 million people in the UK whose lives are affected by asthma. We fund vital research, health information materials and essential services for people with asthma, including the Asthma UK Adviceline and Kick Asthma holidays for children with asthma.

UPDATE: My race was run! I am officially a 2013 London Marathon Finisher and I've got the t-shirt to prove it. It was a fantastic experience, I'm so glad I took part. I came in earlier than expected finishing in four hours, 57 minutes and three seconds. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. I'm even happier though, with all of you lovely generous people who donated to my two charities over and above the call of compassion. Being able to contribute to the work of Cancer Research UK and Asthma UK means so much to me after the last terrible twelve months my family have endured. And if you're reading this and would like to contribute, please do – this page will still be accepting random acts of kindness for a little while yet.

Hello folks, thanks for stopping by.
I'm running the 2013 Virgin London Marathon. One leg is running for Cancer Research UK, the other for Asthma UK. Both causes mean a lot to me.
My Mother-in-Law, Pat, died suddenly from a brain tumour last summer and my own Mum lost her life-long battle with asthma 25 years ago. And sadly, Mum's brother, my Uncle Brian passed away on 6th March this year from leukaemia.
I'm hoping to raise £100 per mile. Your donations will further the work of these charities. This might help other families suffering from the effects of cancer or asthma, and help those affected live for longer.
