Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. "It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."

Lake Bala Charity Swimming Event

Next Event Date: Saturday 8th September 2012

The first Lake Bala Charity Swimming event was held on 11th June 2011 and was such a success that we're making it a regular event. September 2011 and June 2012 were yet more great great successes.

There will be 750m and 1500m events over a GPS-laid-out course, with full safety cover and electonic timing.

The entry fee is a minimum of £6 per race, all of which goes to the charities selected as a direct donation.

The races will start and finish close to the Bala Watersports Centre, Bala Lake Foreshore, Pensarn Road, Bala, LL23 7SR.

There are no prizes to give out, so participants will merely gain the warm feeling of success and achievement by swimming fast and doing something worthwhile for charity at the same time.

Previously, entrants to the Sunday race have used this as a practice to familiarise themselves with the lake and the water conditions. They found this extremely helpful to their race practice.

There will be two distances:-

750m at 14:00 hrs,

1500m at 14:30 hrs.

These are timed so if you wish, then you can do both.

The courses will be GPS measured and marked with large orange buoys, and will use the start and exit points of the Bala Triathlon races.

If you wish to enter one of these races simply make a donation of a minimum £6 per race (ticking the gift aid box if you are eligible to do so) then e-mail you details using the link below:
