Pratham Uk
Pratham, which means ‘First’ in Hindi was founded in Mumbai by UNICEF in 1994 to help provide basic literacy to India’s 100 million illiterate children. Through its Read India campaign which began in in 2008, Pratham has now reached over 35 million children in 22 Indian states. Pratham is a grassroots based NGO and works with young people, village communities, governments, corporates and volunteers to provide a model that is economic, scalable and does not replicate government infrastructure. Pratham’s development interventions include improving literacy and arithmetic at primary and secondary level, protecting vulnerable children from child labour and providing greater opportunities to return to school for young women.

Hello :) , Thank you very much for visiting my page.

Let's choose to break a vicious poverty cycle by supporting education, Let's make it possible

I am running Full marathon 26.2 miles on Sun, 29 May 2016 in Edinburgh to raise funds for Education in India - the charity Pratham UK that works relentlessly towards the big cause.

Interesting story:

A boy 22 years old entered the UK in the year 2003 with few hundred pounds, borrowed money from his cousin. He was coming from a very humble background where the family of 4 was surviving on salary of a single bread winner mother approx. £40/month.  He worked his way up and now running a successful immigration law firm in Central London. This was only possible because he had the opportunity to obtain his education. This has helped not only to bring better life for his entire family but now this person has embarked the way to help educating as many children as possible in India to make all opportunities available for them to create equivalent success, happiness for themselves and for their family and for those who need education.

Dear reader, this is a true story and it is my story.

I and Pratham (the charity) believes that education is a fundamental human right.

Problems

  1. India is home to 40% of the world's illiterate.
India is a special country, with an especially big literacy problem.
  2. Children suffer the most.
Even worse, of the country’s 210 million children, almost half are unable to read. That is both the root of the problem and its cruellest consequence. Without education, these children are vulnerable and unlikely to ever rise above the poverty of previous generations.
  3. A Persistent child labour problem.
In India, an estimated 11 million children work as child labourers. It is an unacceptable truth that is both a cause and by product of India’s continuing cycle of illiteracy.

Solution

  1. Pratham (the charity) is providing a cost effective, efficient and scalable solution by addressing the root problems.
  2. I will help them in their big cause by raising £10000 running full marathon on 29 May 2016.

My running history

  1. 704 miles of total running since September 2012
  2. Multi-terrain 8 miles run completed in Sept. 2012
  3. Half marathon completed in 1 hour 59 minutes in March 2015
  4. Half marathon practice session completed on 01 August 2015
  5. I got injured in mid August 2015 - hair line fracture in left leg and had to take rest for a month to let injury heal.
  6. Restarted training on 13.09.2015
  7. I am training 4/5 times per week
