Ron Pickering Memorial Fund
The Ron Pickering Memorial Fund (RPMF) raises funds to help young aspiring talented athletes reach their true potential. The RPMF helps recipients make the difficult transition from junior to senior level through support for equipment, specialist coaching or travel and importantly help build the athletes’ confidence and self esteem through recognition. RPMF has raised and awarded over £1.5 million in small but significant grants to over 2,500 talented young British athletes, including all of the London 2012 and 2016 individual Olympic athletics medallists. “Sport is the most precious commodity we have to hand on to the next generation” Ron Pickering OBE Read more about the RPMF at rpmf.org.uk

A Big Thank You

Thank you for all the support and encouragement during my 3 months leading up to the big race.  It was tough, but I ended up with a respectable 3hours 27 minutes and 25 seconds.  Also I was very pleased to have raised over £1400 pounds for the RPMF in the process.

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Alan.

The Road to London

This started back in 2010 with a New Year's resolution to walk 1 mile around Rhoose Point each evening in an effort to get fitter.  After a month I decided to start jogging instead.  As time went on I ran whilst my children were taking part in activities with Rhoose Lifeguards, Fonty Flippers or City of Cardiff Swimming Club.

In October of 2010 I completed the Cardiff Half Marathon and have now also completed each year since.  I have another year to do this on my own until my daughter can also run this with me in 2017.

Recently I have taken part in the Swansea 10k, plus Gwent League and Inter Regional cross country races.

I joined Cardiff Amateur Athletics Club, which my daughter has attended for a few years.  In 2015 I managed the U13 Girls Youth Development League team and the club made it through to the National Finals in Birmingham.

For the last 5 years I have been in the ballot for the London Marathon but never been successful in gaining a place.

Ron Pickering memorial fund (RPmf)

I became aware of the RPmf through my links with Cardiff AAC. I have seen first hand how the small grants awarded by the fund can make a big difference to a young athlete in their transition to senior level.  The grants are designed to help with coaching, equipment, travel and also importantly help build an athletes confidence and self esteem.

When the opportunity to run the London Marathon on behalf of the RPmf came up on 28th January, I had to grab it with both hands, even though there is less than 3 months left until the big day.

It's a double-whammy, donations for Ron and the achievement of a long time ambition for me.

Please Help

I now need to raise as much money as possible, ideally hitting or exceeding my target of £1,500.  If you can spare a few pounds, or can dig deep and put in even a little bit extra, it will make a big difference.  Please hit one of the 'Donate now' buttons and contribute to this worthy cause.

Thank You !
