The Born Free Foundation Limited
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded by Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers following their starring roles in the classic film Born Free. Today, led by their son Will Travers, Born Free takes action worldwide for wild animal welfare and compassionate conservation. From small beginnings, Born Free has grown into a global force for wildlife. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase out zoos and stop captive animal exploitation. Born Free rescues individuals from lives of misery in tiny cages and gives them lifetime care in spacious sanctuaries. Born Free protects threatened species including lions, elephants, tigers, gorillas, wolves, bears, marine turtles and much more in their natural habitat, working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together without conflict. Find out more and get involved at www.bornfree.org.uk
Consortium For Street Children
Consortium for Street Children (CSC) exists to amplify street children’s voices, promote their rights and improve their lives. Street children are among the most neglected children around the world. CSC is the world’s only network of street children’s organisations, and has over 80 members helping street children in 130 countries.
Oceans Stars Trust
Ocean Stars Trust (OST) was established in 2005 following the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. Their vision is to relieve suffering among disadvantaged people in Sri Lanka by providing them with the necessary skills to rebuild their shattered lives whether following natural disasters or with the aftermath of civil conflict. OST supports a wide range of projects across Sri Lanka but has a special interest in child education especially that of pre-school children where there is little government support in the country. www.oceanstars.org.uk oceanstarstrust@gmail.com Ocean Stars Trust Registered charity number 1110022

'The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step' LAO TZU

We would like to thank the generosity of the donors who've already raised over £6,000 for the Barefoot Billion campaign and in particular The Rt Hon Sir John Major KG CH for his generous gift of £1000(Details of these can be viewed under 'Other fundraising' on the right hand side of this page)

Philip Wells better known as the "Firepoet" www.thefirepoet.com has successfully walked 1000 miles barefoot (a new world record)  following the path of bards and poets, across the South West of England and Wales.

What made him do such an EXTRAORDINARY thing?

To support and raise awareness of the one billion barefoot children in our world who are living in poverty.

These children have no school and no shoes but they have hope.

The hope that people like you and me can take a few steps together to give them a better life.

Already children around the world, on every continent, are being inspired to do their own sponsored walks to help turn the tide once and for all, from Iran to Czech Republic, from Kenya to Sri Lanka.

We're planet people. We need to look after our own.

Already, hundreds have pledged to walk for the cause - artists, poets, celebrities, historians, ecowarriors, politicians, writers, children and people like you who suddenly sense that real and lasting change is incredibly close.

BE this one step NOW - and a billion may follow.

The funds raised from this epic 1000 mile barefoot walk will help some of those children living in poverty through the work of the 3 Charities that are supporting Philip.
